Movies are surely the best source of entertainment. And going to the cinema and watching a film along with good company and munchies is an experience in itself. However, there was a time when our local cinema had taken a back seat and we had no option but to binge on Hollywood and Bollywood movies. Well, this is not the case anymore as we now often get to see Pakistani films competing at the box office with a foreign release. This Eid-ul-Azha two major productions - ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ and ‘Na Maloon Afraad 2’ - gave a massive opening not in Pakistan only, but overseas as well. The much awaited films catered to mass audiences for their commercial appeal and comic punches. Go and watch them before you miss them. Read on...Cine blitz

A Punjabi saga:

Punjab Nahi Jaungi (PNJ) features Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat, Urwa Hocane and Azfar Rehman. It is a romantic-drama directed by the award-winning director, Nadeem Baig, and produced by Salman Iqbal, Muhammad Jerjees Seja, Shehzad Nasib and Humayun Saeed. The story revolves around a Punjabi feudal lord and a sophisticated, modern girl from Karachi, and their journey towards love. ‘PNJ’ is a rollercoaster of emotions with dramatic twists and turns, leading you to connect with it instantly.

Recently, the movie was premiered in Karachi which was a star studded event. Numerous celebrities from the entertainment industry including Mahirah Khan, Fahad Mustafa, Syra Shahroz, Shahroz Sabzwari, Farhan Saeed along with the star cast and makers of ‘PNJ’ were spotted at the occasion. On the premiere night Humayun Saeed said, “Punjab Nahi Jaungi is a wholesome entertainer, and I am confident that the audiences will love it.”

The positive reviews that the movie has been receiving since its release are quite impressive. Well, you will have to watch it to find out whether Humayun gets to take his lady love back to Punjab!

The not-so-curious case of a golden pot

One of the most highly anticipated movies, Na Maloom Afraad 2 (NMA 2), was also recently premiered in Karachi. The event was attended by a number of celebrities along with the film’s cast members including Fahad Mustafa, Javed Sheikh, Urwa Hocane, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Hania Amir and Marina Khan. As the sequel to 2014’s Na Maloom Afraad, ‘NMA 2’ brought back the montage of actors that were featured in the first part. Fahad Mustafa, Javed Sheikh, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Urwa Hocane are seen together again along with Hania Amir and Marina Khan. According to director Nabeel Qureshi, “Fizza (the producer) and I had always known that we would want to make a sequel to the first ‘NMA’, but we chose to take a break with ‘Actor In Law’ last year, which was a completely different film. Now, with ‘NMA 2’, we have come back with the original cast but with a new concept. It’s a very interesting story with a lot of satire and comedy that we hope will appeal to audiences.”

The entire movie has been shot in Cape Town and Karachi, showing how the trio meets again in Cape Town followed by a series of adventures and happenings. Despite some epic comic scenes, the film seems to bite the dust at the box office as the story lacks variation and creativity. We hope that it manages to do well and makes all the fans of Na Maloom series proud.
