‘Eid Engagement and Other Weddings’ has taken a serious turn. In the last couple of episodes, the impact of broken engagement was related beautifully by Iqra. In fact, this twist in her tale seemed like my own story. My parents and my fiancé’s parents fought over haq mehr and broke the engagement just three months before my wedding. It was a difficult time for me and the only solace I had was that I realized that my fiancé had no backbone as he did not say anything to his parents. My sympathies are with Gohar, and I hope she gets to have a good ending.

‘Sky is the limit’ by Shermeen Zuberi was truly inspiring, and I wish Alishba Mohsin all the best. I hope Alishba achieves her goal of representing Pakistan in international events, and wins laurels for our country. Also, the 26th installment of ‘Eid Engagement and Other Stories’ was really good, and I am happy that the pace has become fast. Ed, can the date for submission of poems for the poetry writing competition be extended?

I am a big fan of our young poets, and enjoy their work a lot. Your announcement about the poetry writing competition was very welcome and I am hoping to read wonderful poems by our gifted poets soon. I have noticed that art work from the back cover has disappeared. Why don’t you announce an art competition as well? You will get art work for many weeks this way! I am also missing book reviews for some time. It seems either people have stopped reading books or they don’t want to write reviews. Sad how social media is conquering all aspects of literary activities.

Can you please, please extend the date for submission of poetry to 31 December? I have been super busy with assignments, tests and project work, and I am sure that is true for many other university students. This is a busy time of the year, so I hope you will extend the date.

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (R.A):
A man heard another man reciting (Surat-Al-Ikhlas) 'Say He is Allah, (the) One.' (112. 1) repeatedly. The next morning he came to Allah's Apostle (S.A.W) and informed him about it as if he thought that it was not enough to recite. On that Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hand my life is, this Surah is equal to one-third of the Qur'an!"
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: My brother, Qatada bin An-Nau'man (R.A) said, "A man performed the night prayer late at night in the lifetime of the Prophet and he read: 'Say: He is Allah, (the) One,' (112.1) and read nothing besides that. The next morning a man went to the Prophet, and told him about that. (The Prophet replied the same as (in Hadith 532) above.)
