Dear Ed,

I think, a new Us star is born and her name is Maleeha Durrani! In this week’s issue, her story ‘Guli Haji Ali’ was realistic, well-written and beautiful. I am looking forward to reading more stories from her. Us has always been blessed with great writers, and I eagerly read the stories of Saniyyah Eman, Iqra Asad, Asif Nawaz, etc. Since I am an old reader, I also remember Lubna Jerar Naqvi, but she has not written for a long time. I still remember ‘Begums and Broomsticks’ by Saad Javed…. What I am trying to say is that when some star stops writing because of his own reasons, luckily fresh writers fill in the gap. What a talented youth we have! I hope Us is always there to provide a platform to new writers. Good luck!

Dear Editor,

In the recent issues of Us magazine, I have come across two good articles on autism. As a doctor whose child is autistic, I would like to request all family members and teachers of these sensitive and beautiful children to try and understand them and treat them normally while catering to their needs in an unobtrusive way. Please don’t forget that God made them the way they are in His infinite wisdom, and we are often tested by Him. Be empathic and friendly towards them and deal with them with patience. Thank you, Us, for highlighting the trials the autistic children face.

Hello Ed,

‘Digital safety and wellness’ by SZ (March 19) was a very informative piece and we all should educate ourselves regarding our own requirements for safety. In present times, the need of the hour is to keep abreast of new developments to ensure that we don’t fall prey to the designs of nefarious people. Good job! I haven’t seen any new art work for quite some time now. The pictures on the back page are always interesting, but hardly a substitute for original works of our talented young people.

Dear Ed,

I loved the eighth instalment of ‘The Eid engagement and other weddings’ by Iqra Asad (19 March). I hope it doesn’t disappear again!

Reflection

Narrated by Sahl (R.A)

The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, ‘Where are those who used to observe fasts?’ They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it.”
