FIGHTING BLUES

The news of PUBG ban has reached almost everyone. Temporarily or permanently, well your guess is as good as mine. But due to this sudden ban many questions have been swiftly raised regarding depression and suicide and this rage has led people to validate its actual causes. People are bringing up suicide cases resulting from educational and academic pressures and discussing the real causes of mental illnesses. Personally, I am in no position to judge the gaming community or agree to disagree with the decision of PTA, but what I can do is try to shed light on just one aspect of one of the major worries of a student: his academic troubles and suicidal thoughts when he realises he was unworthy of the dream university he had gone great lengths to get into.

We live in a world that encompasses anxiety, tension, depression, regret, sorrow and fear which is, in fact, the uglier side of life. We encounter these atrocities under many circumstances. We feel entrapped by hopelessness and our lives turn into an ordeal. If through this article I am able to eradicate just a small fraction of the worries from people’s minds, I would be extremely contented.

We encounter these atrocities under many circumstances.

We feel entrapped by hopelessness and our lives turn into an ordeal

As a student who had gotten admission in one of the best medical universities of Pakistan, I completely acknowledge how hard it must be for the students who just fell short of it. This time is extremely tough for a student as he is trying to come to terms with the fact that he didn’t get into his dream university for which he had tirelessly worked hard for many years. Reality strikes him really hard and he is left vulnerable to all sorts of depression and anxieties. He assumes the role of a pessimist and hides the guilt by finding ways to blame it on his fate.

The purpose of life, to him, is demolished in front of his eyes and the ambitions that he had built in all these years come crashing down at once. He then questions himself whether this life is worth living, or whether he would be accepted in this judgmental, pathetic society. So, let me ask you one thing: what went wrong when you had it all figured out? Was it the lack of passion or just the lack of hard work? Was it your carefree way of life or your surrendering mode of mind?

Let me tell you it was neither of those things. You think that you have everything planned out for yourself; your life, your future, your career, your purpose. But you are forgetting that nothing is put into practice without Allah’s consent and will. You might not even know what kind of better and fruitful life He has planned for every individual. He knows your strengths and your weaknesses. He knows what’s best and what’s worst. If becoming doctors and engineers was written in everyone’s fate, what a dull world would this had been!

Florence Nightingale wouldn’t have been remembered as the pioneer of nursing and Mother Teresa as one of 20th Century’s greatest humanitarians. Napoleon, one of the greatest military leaders, wouldn’t have set an example of great leadership by extending the French Empire in most of European countries and Mandela wouldn’t have been South Africa’s greatest leaders who emphasized and propagated values like solidarity, equality, respect, tolerance, peace and friendship.

Gordon Ramsay wouldn’t have had over 35 restaurants around the world and Meryl Streep would never have been nominated for over 20 Oscars and won it three times for her brilliant acting in movies.

Ellen Lee DeGeneres would not have been a hilarious host whose perfect sense of humour made her talk show to be watched by millions of people around the globe. Michael Jackson wouldn’t have won people’s hearts through his emotional and meaningful songs and J.K Rowling a best selling author who took us all on an amazing journey in the world of magic by publishing the Harry Potter series. Charlie Chaplin would never have been the famous comedian who made the world laugh without speaking a single word.

Ronaldo would never have been World’s No 1 soccer player whose amazing goals make crowd jump from their seats, Serena Williams, the best female tennis player, Usain Bolt the world’s fastest sprinter making a record of nine Olympic gold medals to his name and Imran Khan wouldn’t have won us the 1992 World Cup.

So if you still think that you have everything figured out, think again. Follow your passion, work hard to achieve it and then just leave the rest to Allah. He never turns down a person’s career if he sees how much care and love the person has for it. Just remember whatever you do turn out to be is what Allah believed was best for you. Don’t try to change yourself because you all are pretty perfect versions of yourselves. Destiny has glorious aims planned and you have so much to show to the world. So let’s try to extirpate anxiety from our country together and show to the world that Pakistan is a country of people filled with hope, passion, dreams and conscientious desires.
