We can see politicians are busy in their lives trying hard to stay in their position and defend themselves; they don’t care if people die thirsty and hungry or if feudal lords treat them like insects.

Dear Editor,

“Desert and dreams” by Saniyah Eman (April 21) was a fantastic read! Was expecting a good ending, but this is what actually happens there and maybe Saniyah thought this ending would truly describe the miseries of the people of Thar and make readers feel Siddu’s pain.

Such stories also show that young people are aware of what is happening in the country. Well-written stories have immense power and they can help bring about change in our society. Thank you for publishing this gripping story!

Hello Ed,

“Darkness in light” (April 21) was thought-provoking! Everybody looked at the tragedy differently and talked about what needs to be done.

I would surely agree with Jamal Sheikh when he says, “Indifference on their (teachers and professors) part is strange; they should have staged protests along with their students.” Yes, it is true that educationists didn’t raise their voice against this incident and nobody is concerned about the security issues in universities around Pakistan. Let’s hope we all can work together to end this violence on the campuses and in our country!

Hi Editor,

I have recently started reading Us magazine. I always enjoy reading light material and avoid stuff on politics. I just quickly go through some of the headlines and quickly grab Instep, You and Us and read them thoroughly. I really think the stories and articles published in these sections are entertaining.

Dear Ed,

I have been reading Us for a long time and have enjoyed the writings of many young writers. Nowadays also you have some very good writers who write on regular basis, but what I like about the magazine is that you give chance to new talent, be it writers, poets or artists; we see them all showcasing their work. In the past few weeks, I have read some amazing pieces and just thought I should write to appreciate these young people. What I would like to specially praise is the art work, which is usually of very good quality. Keep up the good work, and try to do more stories on issues our youth need to be aware of.

Riz is on the cover!

This sounds like a big achievement for Rouge One actor, Riz Ahmed! How amazing is this when Lin-Manuel Miranda writes this for him: “To know him is to be inspired, engaged and ready to create alongside him. The year 2016 was when all the seeds he planted bore glorious fruit, and here’s the best part: he’s just getting started.”

Query

Hello Editor,

Do you only take write-ups from young writers? I used to write fiction when I was studying Psychology in university; I was shy and always thought my stories wouldn’t really interest the readers. Recently, when my colleague started a blog, I was able to share my stories on it. To my utter amazement, the stories were well received. Now, I feel motivated! Can I send some of my stories to Us magazine?

Babar Saki

Yes, you can send your stories to us.mag@thenews.com.pk. If they are interesting and relevant to youth and not published elsewhere, we will definitely take them. Good Luck!

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A)

Whenever a dead man in debt was brought to Allah’s Apostle he would ask, “Has he left anything to repay his debt?” If he was informed that he had left something to repay his debts, he would offer his funeral prayer, otherwise he would tell the Muslims to offer their friend’s funeral prayer. When Allah made the Prophet wealthy through conquests, he said, “I am more rightful than other believers to be the guardian of the believers, so if a Muslim dies while in debt, I am responsible for the repayment of his debt, and whoever leaves wealth (after his death) it will belong to his heirs.”
