Feedback

Assalamualikum Eddy!

I was very happy and relieved to October 14 issue. Shermeen Zuberi’s article ‘The curious case of PCOS’ was quite helpful. We have recently studied this syndrome in our Case Based Learning session in the college, but due to insufficient information in the book, we weren’t able to understand it. There is so much on the internet that one can’t easily figure out accurate information. But after reading that wonderful article, I feel like I have understood everything, and now I am really excited to take a test on this syndrome.

This has also encouraged me to write on health related issues so that we understand them properly and take appropriate measures to prevent and treat them.

Thank you for the article!

Hi Ed,

The cover ‘It’s only words’ (Oct, 21) by Zunaira Afzal was a treat for all the Us readers. There is nothing better than reading some crisp words from your beloved writers. Us has always worked on building a strong and ever-lasting relationship between its writers and readers. Not all publications do that. While reading the comments, I felt an urge to write. Writing is a daunting task for me, and I wonder how people come up with such awesome write-ups. Asif Nawaz’s comment was the best and the most inspiring one; when he calls writing a blessing, I agree with him. And, I also agree with Naeema when she says not everyone is blessed with the art of writing. I couldn’t find Shermeen Zuberi’s comments; she is also my favourite Us writer.

Giving back to society

Salam Editor,

A Spaniard who lives in the hearts of millions of tennis fans has opened an academy in his hometown. Rafa Nadal tennis academy will be a place where young tennis enthusiasts would learn the game under the supervision of Rafael Nadal. To support Nadal’s efforts, his rival Roger Frederer also joined him.

This great news made me reflect and I began thinking of how our legendary players are giving back to society. Last June, Amir Khan opened Amir Khan boxing academy in Islamabad; there are couple of academies being run by Real Madrid Foundation; even Shahid Afridi is planning to set up a proper cricket academy. In spite of all these efforts, we lack behind. But, I think if more and more people begin realising their duties, we can also do wonders for our country.

Poverty and education

Hello Ed,

Though Baluchistan is rich in minerals resources, it suffers from illiteracy and extreme poverty. Over 52 percent of the population subsists below the poverty line, and are deprived of standard living and fundamental rights. As a result, 1.8 million children are out of school just owing to poverty. I think along with poverty as an obstacle, government’s negligence is also one of the major causes. I request concerned authorities to do something in this regard.

Narrated by

Abdullah (R.A.)

The Prophet(S.A.W) drew a square and then drew a line in the middle of it and let it extend outside the square and then drew several small lines attached to that central line, and said, “This is the human being, and this [the square], in his lease of life, encircles him from all sides [or has encircles him], and this [line], which is outside [the square], is his hope, and these small lines are the calamities and troubles [which may befall him], and if one misses him, another will snap [i.e. overtake] him, and if the other misses him, a third will snap [i.e. overtake] him.”
