The booty has been made halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me....

BITS ‘N’ PIECES

Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah:

The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said, “I have been given five things which were not given to anyone else before me.

1. Allah made me victorious by awe, (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month’s journey.

2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform tayammum, therefore anyone of my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.

3. The booty has been made halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me.

4. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection).

5. Every prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to all mankind.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 7, Number 331

DID YOU KNOW?

The world’s oldest cat lived for 38 years!

The average lifespan of an indoor cat is generally between 12 and 18 years. Factors including genetics, lifestyle, and environment can influence the length of a feline’s life. Crossbred and neutered cats generally tend to live longer, although a lot of other elements – like injury and illness – also come into play.

Many well-cared-for furbabies make it to their 20s, while stray or outdoor cats usually don’t have such luck and only live for around two to five years. But the oldest reported cat in the world lived to be an amazing 38 years old!

Creme Puff a mixed tabby from Austin Texas, was born on 3 August 1967 and spent the next four decades – 38 years and 3 days to be precise – with her owner, Jake Perry, till her death on 6 August 2005.

Perry – who was also the owner of the previous record holder, Grandpa Rex Allen (who was born on 1 February 1964 and died on 1 April 1998 at the age of 34) – attributed Crème Puff’s exceptional longevity to her active lifestyle plus a very unique – and quite peculiar – diet consisting of dry cat food along with “broccoli, eggs, bacon, coffee with cream, and, every two days, an eyedropper of red wine”.

Creme Puff had no major health complications and outlived most cats by decades. While others may (or may not) have lived longer – it isn’t always easy to verify an animal’s exact age – Creme Puff remains the oldest domestic feline ever recorded.

Flossie
Flossie

The world’s oldest living verified cat is 29-year-old Flossie (born 29 December 1995), a British domestic cat, who lives in Orpington, England, with her current owner, Victoria Green. She lived in a feral cat colony as a baby before staff members of a hospital adopted the kittens. She had several previous owners – spending 10 years with her first owner, a hospital worker, before she died; 14 years with her late owner’s sister till she, too, passed away; then her second owner’s son for three years, who subsequently entrusted her to volunteers at the welfare charity Cats Protection – before finding her way to Green who adopted Flossie in 2022 when the feline was 27.
