Dear Ed,

I enjoyed reading The Stamp Story by Zahra Nadeem in your issue last week (21 February). Stamps hold great significance as custodians of history, yet their use is declining with the increasing reliance on courier services for sending mail. This charming tradition of issuing new stamps is slowly fading, which is unfortunate.

I also read about the educational event Enchanted Realms at DHACSS Seaview Campus in a Karachi school and would like to commend the administration for addressing students’ need for recreational activities. Such initiatives play a vital role in fostering creativity and engagement among young learners.

Dear Ed,

The cover story The Impact of Physical Discipline on Children by Ayesha Pervez was much needed. As a school teacher, I have witnessed parents and teachers punishing children without considering their self-esteem. I have tried to reason with both parents and colleagues, but many still believe that sparing the rod leads to spoiled children. While this might have been a prevailing notion in the past, modern psychological research has highlighted the harmful effects of harsh discipline on children’s emotional growth. It is time we adapt and become better parents and educators, fostering an environment that nurtures rather than harms our children.

Recreational activities for our youth

Dear Editor,

I am writing to highlight the importance of fostering a joyful and vibrant environment for our youth. Young people deserve to grow up in a world filled with laughter, excitement, and endless possibilities. In today’s fast-paced and often stressful world, it’s easy for them to feel overwhelmed by pressure. That’s why it is crucial to provide opportunities for them to unwind, have fun, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Engaging in recreational activities, creative pursuits, and social events can help young people develop a more positive outlook on life. These experiences also strengthen their relationships with peers, teach valuable life skills, and foster a sense of community and belonging.

I urge everyone to recognize the importance of creating a supportive and uplifting environment for our youth and provide them with the opportunities and resources they need to thrive and reach their full potential.
