Dear Ed,

I have been reading Us for several years and truly believe it offers something for everyone. I appreciate the diversity of topics, but I feel Us should focus more on education and less on entertainment. As the only magazine dedicated to young people, it carries the responsibility of guiding the youth by featuring articles on social and moral issues.

I’m not suggesting that you eliminate the entertainment content, such as celebrity interviews. I simply want to emphasize that, since entertainment is widely available online, a resource like Us should be used for more constructive purposes. Sections like Poets’ Corner and Think Pad are excellent, and I encourage you to expand the magazine’s scope by introducing a section on arts and crafts. Additionally, including content on religious knowledge with an emphasis on social responsibility would be valuable.

I hope you will consider my suggestions and act on them.

Dear Editor,

As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, it’s imperative that we address the pressing issue of teenage social media usage in Pakistan. As of January 2024, Pakistan had approximately 71.7 million social media users, accounting for 29.5% of the total population. It’s clear that our youth are spending an increasing amount of time online. This trend is not only detrimental to their academic performance but also has severe consequences for their physical and mental well-being.

Excessive screen time can lead to poor eyesight, decreased attention span, and a lack of meaningful face-to-face interactions. Furthermore, the constant bombardment of manipulated content can perpetuate unrealistic expectations, low self-esteem, and a distorted view of reality. It’s essential that we acknowledge these risks and take proactive measures to protect our youth.

In contrast, countries like Australia are taking proactive measures to protect their teenagers by implementing restrictions on social media usage. While this approach may seem drastic, it’s essential that we consider similar actions to safeguard the well-being and education of our youth. By implementing restrictions, promoting digital literacy, and encouraging physical activities and outdoor pursuits, we can help our teenagers develop a healthier relationship with social media and a more balanced lifestyle.

I urge the government to take immediate action to address this critical issue. By working together, we can ensure that our youth are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to thrive in the digital age. It’s time for us to take responsibility for the well-being of our youth and create a safer, healthier online environment for them to grow and prosper.
