Brain drain needs to be controlled
Dear Editor,
According to statistics from the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE), at least 450,000 Pakistani citizens left their country with the aim of finding better job opportunities. These numbers only account for the first half of 2023. If this trend continues, Pakistan will likely continue to experience a significant outflow of knowledge, resulting in a slowdown of economic growth and development due to the loss of valuable skills and talents being utilized elsewhere.
It’s essential for the government to address this issue and for political parties to incorporate it into their election manifestos. Developing policies that align with current trends to create an environment that encourages young people to stay, and invest their efforts and expertise for the country is crucial, so brain drain must be controlled.

Hi Ed,
In the issue of 1 September, ‘The joy of minimalism’ by Ayesha Pervez caught my eye. I agree with the writer completely, but also think that people who live in small spaces often have no option other than to clutter their houses with furniture, gadgets and appliances because they need all the things necessary for their day-to-day life. My cousin lives in a two-bed apartment, and their bare necessities take up so much space they hardly have any room to walk. So, to enjoy minimalism, one must have space! In ‘Poets’ Corner’, I liked Sweet haven by Fatima Ahmed and Miles to go before I sleep by Shehzeen Anwer.

Hi Editor,
I loved the cover story ‘For the love of tennis’ by Shaza Khalid in today’s (8 September) Us. Also, the ‘Did you know’ segment on page 3 was very interesting.
