For the first time, a global series, titled Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions, has been created by an all Pakistani crew that will be officially presented and released by YouTube Originals and Refinery 29. The third and fourth episodes of the series recently came out, directed by Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and produced by Safyah Zafar Usmani and Shahrukh Waheed under the banner of SOC Films.
The third episode of Fundamental from the United States, titled– Rising Power, revolves around the intersectional justice movement in the US, led by people of colour, and how it tackles oppression and patriarchy every single day.
The next episodes of Fundamental from Kenya, called Girls at the Heart of It, highlights comprehensive sexuality education in Kenya and how young women leaders in the country are promoting knowledge and activism to take ownership of their futures.
Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions, an international documentary series, is a joint production of SOC Films and Global Fund for Women, comprising five episodes. The series follows the lives of dynamic activists from five countries – Brazil, Georgia, Kenya, USA and Pakistan – who are disrupting the status quo and radically altering the course of history for women and girls – and all historically marginalized people and communities globally. With this series, SOC Films aims to present and empower the next generation of non-fiction filmmakers in Pakistan.
