Laal Kabootar selected by Pakistan Oscar committee for upcoming Academy Awards

“Humbled by the news! This is an extremely proud moment for the entire team, we are all very excited. Want to thank the Pakistan selection committee and audiences for giving Laal Kabootar so much love,” Kamal Khan noted in a press statement.

Kamal Khan’s debut feature film, Laal Kabootar, which stars Ahmed Ali Akbar and Mansha Pasha in lead roles released in Pakistan earlier this year. The critically acclaimed film recently had its television premiere, with most people praising the effort.

Now the film has another feather in its cap. It has been selected for Oscar consideration under ‘International Feature Film Award’ by the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee.

Producers of the film, Kamil Chima and Hania Chima, noted, “This is very exciting news. This is a moment of immense pride for the entire team, from the investors who put their faith in us, to the cast and crew that worked tirelessly to tell a daring story.”

Chaired by Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the 2019 committee featured Sarmad Khoosat, Sanam Saeed, Asim Abbasi, Zeba Bakhtiar among others. For the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will finalize nominees in December 2019 while the complete list of Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 13, 2020. The ceremony will take place on February 9, 2020.
