Film and TV actor Hamza Ali Abbasi, who last appeared on the big screen in air force film Parwaaz Hai Junoon for which he picked up mixed to good reviews, will soon be returning to the small screen. Paired opposite the incredibly talented and versatile Sajal Aly, the actor is starring in Haseeb Hassan’s upcoming TV project Alif that is currently being shot in Karachi.

In an interview with online magazine Something Haute on the set of the play, Hamza shared that the story of the play is very unusual.

“It’s not just the title that’s unusual,” he asserted. “The story is also unusual, in a happy way for me, at least. I didn’t want to do a drama because I was doing a film, but the story [of Alif] is so riveting that I had to do it so that it can reach the audience. It has Allah’s message.”

The Mann Mayal actor also revealed that his character in Alif holds similarities to his life.

“My character reflects my real life,” he admitted. “It’s about a person who is deeply entrenched in worldly vices and is someone we wouldn’t consider to be a good human being. And then his journey of shedding all those negative things and going towards God and a life which is considered to be a good life. It’s about this transition. It reflects my actual transition from a lot of angles because there was a time when I was a different person and I am a different person now so I see a lot of myself in Momin – the character I am playing.”

Aside from Hamza and Sajal, Alif – produced by Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun Saeed – also features Ahsan Khan and Kubra Khan in key roles. We are eager to watch them all on the screen together.
