Director-actor Usman Mukhtar made his acting debut with a cameo in Janaan, followed by a more prominent role in Parchi for which he was also the Director of Photography. Currently focusing on direction, Usman has started working on a short film that he plans to showcase at the Pakistan International Film Festival (PIFF) next year.

“It is going to be a crime drama,” Usman shared with Instep. “We are working on the script right now while I’m in talks with some of the actors in NAPA.”

The director turned actor also informed that he wished to present his short at PIFF this year, but couldn’t do it due to other engagements.

“After PIFF, I may send my film to Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) as well as Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF),” he added.

Usman has been directing since 2006; some of his past projects as a director include Aasia (debut project) that was based on the issue of child molestation, TVCs and music videos. Usman’s most recent short was called Aasiqui and featured Rubya Chaudhry as the protagonist.

Aside from direction, Usman is also in talks to star in television serials though he hasn’t signed on for any production just yet. It was reported earlier that the director and actor will be a part of Mehreen Jabbar’s upcoming drama Dil Kiya Karey alongside Feroze Khan and Yumna Zaidi; however, he informs that he was in talks but never gave it a nod.
