The Sketches, a Sufi folk-rock band from Jamshero that counts Saif Samejo as founder and leader, is an excellent music outfit. Known for their blend of regional folk, the band released an album called You last year which contains 13 songs sung in a number of languages including Sindhi, Siraiki, Punjabi, Urdu, Hindu, Marwari. The record picked up a Lux Style Award nomination in the category of Best Music Album and was released on several platforms including Patari, Amazon, iTunes and Spotify.
Though the band did not win an LSA, they have generously uploaded the album on Soundcloud where you can listen to it and download it for free.
Moving on, the band is also gearing up to make a mark as they take on the role of music director for a film, namely Cake, which will mark Adnan Malik’s big screen debut alongside Sanam Saeed and Aamina Sheikh. According to Samejo, the soundtrack will contain anywhere between four to five songs while the musicians involved in the process include names from Pakistan, America and Nepal. Samejo also explained that the lyrical content will draw from the writings of Bulley Shah and Khwaja Ghulam Farid.
