If there’s one superhero film that confounded expectations critically and commercially it was Deadpool starring former Green Lantern boy Ryan Reynolds in the titular role. Made on a budget of 58 million dollars, it collected over 750 million dollars on the box office and went on to become one of the biggest hits of this year. The success also led to confirmation from the producers that a sequel was definitely on the cards.

But, as we get closer to the second film, not all is well between the team. According to a report in Deadline, the film’s original director Tim Miller has left Deadpool 2 directing duties due to creative differences with actor Ryan Reynolds. Reports suggest that though Miller hadn’t signed on the dotted line, it was assumed that he would remain onboard given the film’s unprecedented success. But it was not to be.

The studio backing the film, Fox, has given Miller another major project to sink his teeth into while the film remains director-less for now. Meanwhile casting for the “raunchy comedy” film is underway with several contenders auditioning to play the role of Neena Thurman aka Domino who is “a mutant and a mercenary”. Those in contention include names like Lizzy Caplan, Sienna Miller, Sofia Boutella, Stephanie Sigman and Sylvia Hoeks. How Miller’s departure affects the film remains a guessing game but without the original director, Deadpool 2 does not sound as appealing as its predecessor.
