YouTube, the game-changing video streaming site, remains a gold mine for pretty much anyone interested in well, anything. But perhaps the site’s most remarkable feat is that it has made it possible for people from all over the world to create content and find an audience.

YouTube, the game-changing video streaming site, remains a gold mine for pretty much anyone interested in well, anything. But perhaps the site’s most remarkable feat is that it has made it possible for people from all over the world to create content and find an audience.

For these reasons and more, Google’s official announcement to launch the YouTube Partner Programme for users and artists in Pakistan and offline feature  should come as a sigh of relief.  The YouTube Partner Programme means that Pakistani YouTube creators “can now monetize their uploaded content”. YouTube’s offline feature means that it will allow “people watch videos for short periods of low connectivity or no Internet connection”.

The announcement of this remarkable initiative that will hopefully help the artist community across multiple fields was made during a launch event in Karachi on Wednesday night.

“We are delighted to launch this new offline experience on YouTube with some of the top Pakistani players in entertainment. By making these popular videos available for temporary offline viewing, our partners will help fans connect more easily with their favorite content, while also helping bring more viewers to their videos. We hope to keep finding better ways to make video content more affordable and accessible in Pakistan,” said Tania Aidrus, Head of Business Development, Next Billion Users team at Google Asia Pacific.

The event, made up of a discerning crowd that included musicians and tech junkies among others, saw a contingent of representatives from Google speak about the power, impact and the future of YouTube in a Pakistani context. Hosted by comedy king, Saad Haroon, the event also featured a diverse range of performers that included Danish Ali, Ali Gul Pir, the Nescafe Basement all-girl band, the Internet viral sensation group called Justin Bibis and headlining act, Noori whose all-star lineup featured Ali Hamza, Haroon Shahid, Saad Sultan, Rakae Jamil and Kami Paul.
