Having directed the youthful Student of the Year, an aberration for a director who is known for his complex love stories and stellar casting over the years, Karan Johar announced his return to complicated love with the film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Starring Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan (in a small but significant role), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been making news for months and its trailer, unlike many other films, is one that makes instant impact and reminds you that all the buzz surrounding the film is justified.

Its obvious that in the film Kapoor, Rai-Bachchan and Sharma are entangled in a complicated relationship while Fawad Khan, (who also makes a few appearances in the teaser trailer) adds to this emotional rollercoaster.

Unrequited love, deep shades of friendship and the complexity of modern day relationships are themes that get explored in this film in a fashion that has now become a signature for Karan Johar.

Some stories also suggest that Saif Ali Khan, who was playing a cameo in the film has been replaced by Shah Rukh Khan after the former injured his arm.

The teaser trailer is set against the backdrop of an Arjit Singh song while the film is less Besharam and closer to Ranbir Kapoor’s earlier works such as Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (and in terms of sheer intensity) maybe even Rockstar.

Meanwhile ADHM’s fate on the box office could suffer since it will go up against Ajay Devgn’s directorial comeback, Shivaay. For now though, the film has received a tremendous response, not just from fans, but Bollywood industry insiders as well who are taking to social media to express love for the film and its maker, Karan Johar who has returned to the director’s chair after nearly three years.

Shot in New Delhi, New York, London and Paris, ADHM is slated to release on October 28, this year.
