2016 hasn’t really been a strong cinematic year for Pakistan; it began with Ho Mann Jahaan on the very first day, followed by other films including Bachaana, Hijrat, Maalik and Mah-e-Mir … all films that received mixed reviews from the audience and critics.

Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay has several things going in its
favour and here’s a list of what we’re hooked on to…

2016 hasn’t really been a strong cinematic year for Pakistan; it began with Ho Mann Jahaan on the very first day, followed by other films including Bachaana, Hijrat, Maalik and Mah-e-Mir … all films that received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. We can’t honestly say we enjoyed or supported them all. But that status may change as the spate of films releasing over the upcoming Eid break (Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay, Actor in Law, Janaan) seem promising.

And right now we’re banking on Anjum Shahzad’s romantic drama Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay. Starring television’s very young ‘it’ couple Feroze Khan and Sajal Aly, ZKHH revolves around the story of Zain and Mahira and their struggles. Instep looks at some of the reasons that make this film worth a watch…

Feroze Khan and Sajal Aly make their filmy debut

The first time they worked together was for TV play Chup Raho and they won hearts and accolades when they appeared together in popular TV serial Gul-e-Rana; Feroze Khan and Sajal Aly had great onscreen chemistry. Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay, their big screen debut, will be their third project together and there’s no reason to doubt that it’ll be just as successful as the first two. The two shared a love-hate relationship in the plays and it appears that their relationship in the film will be pretty fiery too. According to Feroze Khan, it’s the obvious comfort level that they share which makes them look appealing together. Will they be able to replicate the same magic on the big screen? We need to wait and watch!

It’s a story about young love

ZKHH will be a departure from serious, message-driven films and appears to be a full blown romance, which one has been waiting for local cinema to come up with for a while now. It’s about young love with its highs and lows. It takes into account the lives of two individuals who are deeply in love with each other but also have their dreams to follow that becomes the major point of conflict between them. Even though it is dubbed as a love story, the teaser hints at a tragic twist – a drowning child, a mentally-disturbed Feroze and a mysterious typewriter signifying that it’s not all going to be hunky dory. This love story will have its share of twists, turns and high voltage drama.

The music makes some good sound!

With a total of seven songs, the film’s soundtrack is undeniably one of the major attractions in the film. “The film’s music will lift the film up,” claims the director Anjum Shahzad. The OST was released earlier this month and received positive reviews from everyone. Four of ZKHH’s songs are written, composed and produced by Soch and the rest by Udan Khatola and Sohail Haider. It is interesting to note that India’s renowned playback singer Sukhwinder Singh has also lent his voice to one of the tracks, titled ‘Kitni Baar’. This should be on you playlist already!

Anjum Shahzad in the director’s seat, again

After ‘testing’ the audience’s intelligence with his last outing Mah-e-Mir (as per his words), director Anjum Shahzad is all set to try his hand at a more commercial venture and we’re very curious to learn what his description for ‘a film for the masses’ looks like. Anjum Shahzad has stated, multiple times, that he has made a conscious effort this time to show what the audience wants to see. Perhaps this is the reason he has come up with a modern love story. Shahzad was honoured with the Best TV Director trophy at the recently held 15th Lux Style Awards for drama serial Rang Laaga and we look forward to what he has to show for it.
