GURUGRAM: A violent Hindu mob attacked a Muslim family residing in Gurugram, a city just southwest of New Delhi in northern India.

A group of 40-45 Hindu men broke into the Muslim home and pelted the family members with stones and beat them up with sticks while telling them to 'go back to Pakistan.'

According to reports, the brawl was sparked by a game of cricket that the victim family was playing on the occasion of Holi.

A video of the brutal assault has been shared on social media which shows around 10 men attacking the family’s male members with rods and sticks in the gallery of their home as a woman prays for them to stop, her cries filling the air.

The men continued to thrash beating one of them till he falls unconscious with blood dripping from his head.

Shahid, one of the family members, told police upon investigation that around 8 to 10 drunk men backed by a Hindutva outfit had asked his family members not to play cricket on the street outside their house in Bhup Singh Nagar.

They were then joined by almost 40 youths who attacked the family with batons, iron rods, hockey sticks, and water pipes, said the cops.

The family has also said that it took around 40 minutes for the police to come to save them even after repeated calls on the helpline.

"We have registered a case of attempt to murder and other relevant sections against the attackers at Bhondsi Police station. We have arrested six goons and efforts are on to identify others with the help of the video," ACP Shamsher Singh said.
