The International Cricket Council today expressed its sadness following the death of Sir John Anderson, a former Chairman of New Zealand Cricket who led the first review of the ICC’s governance structure as the Chair of the ICC Rules Review Committee in 1997.

ICC Chairman Mr Shashank Manohar paid tribute to Sir John for the enormous impact he made on the game, when he said: “Today is a very sad day for cricket as the sport has lost one of its most committed servants.

“Sir John served the ICC in a number of important roles, but one of his most valuable contributions is the review of the ICC’s governance structure which he spearheaded in 1997, and that formed the basis of the ICC today.”

Sir John was an ICC Director from 1996 to 2008 by virtue of his capacity as the NZC Chairman, and also headed the ICC Audit Committee from 2003 to 2008.

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson, in his condolence message, said: “Sir John was one of the most popular and respected cricket administrators who cared deeply about the sport. He leaves behind a very strong legacy.

“On behalf of the ICC, I would like to pass our condolences to Sir John’s family, close friends and New Zealand Cricket at this difficult time.”
