Creators to shut down Runescape Classic in three months
“It is with great sadness that we have taken the difficult decision to say goodbye to RuneScape Classic, which we will be winding down over the next 3 months,” the official announcement declared
It has been announced that Runescape Classic, a multiplayer online role-playing game, will no longer exist after August 6, 2018, completing almost two decades.
The Runescape franchise broke its hard decision this week, stating the reasons to be bugs, botting, and outdated tool.
“It is with great sadness that we have taken the difficult decision to say goodbye to RuneScape Classic, which we will be winding down over the next 3 months,” the official announcement declared.
Citing how some of the in-game enthusiasts even ‘managed to reach max total’, the official statement lauded players' dedication received throughout the years and explained how ‘bots and lack of community safety tools’ have been tossing serious problems at the classic-version.
Creators mentioned that ‘the number of bugs is getting worse’ and they can feel the game crash.
“With advancements in technology helping to further support both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, our tools are no longer compatible with Classic. This is particularly a problem with our community safety and macro detection tools. The game is now easily abused with the use of 3rd party macro tools, and botting has become an increasing issue.”
“We also feel that we can no longer offer long term service reliability due to the growing risk of unrecoverable game breaking bugs,” the source added.
With the RuneScape Classic servers due to be taken offline at 8:00am BST on the 6th of August 2018, the franchise mentioned that the current version of the game as well as the 2007 edition will remain active after the deadline.
Taking to social media, earlier game players are planning to head back to their childhood fantasy game and reminisce with a players’ reunion at plotted whereabouts on-board the game.
