NEW YORK: Former “Smallville” actor Allison Mack has been bailed out on a $5 million bond after she was arrested on Thursday for an alleged involvement in sex-trafficking.
The American actress was turned in for sex trafficking charges for allegedly recruiting women to a purported self-help group which forced them to have sex with its leader, Keith Raniere.
Mack’s counsels, Sean Buckley and William McGovern of the law firm Kobre & Kim previously had filed a ‘not guilty’ appeal on her behalf in a Brooklyn courtroom.
The court exempted her to live with her parents in California on agreement that the actress would stay off the internet and would not maintain contact with anyone associated with NXIVM.
According to sources, Raniere and Mack each face a minimum of 15 years in prison and could get life if convicted. The court has adjourned the next hearing until May 3.
NXIVM chief Raniere, who was arrested in March in Mexico, is still facing sex trafficking charges under claims ‘not guilty’.
It was reported that Raniere, 57, during the past 20 years, established a series of purported self-help programs within his umbrella organization, called "Nxivm" – which featured a pyramid scheme, as courses cost thousands of dollars each and participants were encouraged to pay for additional classes and recruit others in order to rise within the ranks.
Many of the women were branded with a symbol containing the initials of the leader of the group.
