SHARJAH: Peshawar Zalmi rose to second place and qualified for the playoffs in the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) when they defeated Lahore Qalandars by seven wickets in the 29th Twenty20 match here at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.
This was a must-win game for them and they did it by chasing a daunting target of 173 with 12 balls remaining.
All credit for their incedible victory went to Kamran Akmal, who emerged hero with one of the finest and powerful T20 innings scoring the first century of the tournament, which made the chase easy.
He remained not out on 107, made off just 61 balls, in the total of 176-3 and he had also to battle cramps during the innings in which he hammered seven sixes and eleven fours.
He was ably supported by veteran Mohammad Hafeez, who made 27 off 25 balls with two fours and a six, and both added 87 for the fourth wicket.
The victory took Peshawar Zalmi to second place on the table with ten points.
