DALLAS: A well-known eminent Pakistani community leader and Muslim scholar Dr. Akhtar Ali Shah has passed away.
The prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza), led by religious scholar Allama Dr Masood, was held here at Daruleman center in Arlington.
People from all walks of life, including politicians, doctors, scientists, poets, student leaders, members of the family, relatives and a number of acquaintances attended the prayers and funeral.
Later, Dr Akhtar’s body was laid to rest at Moore Memorial Garden (Muslim cemetery AlBaqi ) in Arlington.
Dr Shah was born in the city of Sargodha, Pakistan and had his education from Jalander, India. He got his medicine degree from King Edward Medical College Lahore, Pakistan and worked as a top official in Lahore, Karachi and London.
He migrated to the US in 1976 and practiced as a psychiatrist and neurologist. He was not only a devoted doctor of great repute but a Muslim scholar and writer.
He wrote many articles in local newspaper and delivered lectures on Islam at various universities in US. His last recoded lecture, titled "Does God Exist" was delivered two years ago.
Because of his reputation, behavior, education, knowledge and spiritual attraction lots of Americans converted to Islam.
His sons Dr. Irfan Shah, Dr Rizwan Shah and other relatives received condolences from a large number of people.
