TEHRAN: Several organizations in Iran commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Iranian sage Shams Tabrizi on Wednesday.
Shams Tabrizi was the wandering sage who later became the mentor of the Persian mystic and poet, Mevlana Jalaludin Rumi.
According to the Iranian media reports, a number of literati, scholars and experts on Shams and Rumi are attending the three-day congress on Shams Tabrizi on September 26-28 in the northwestern Iranian city of Khoy, which is the site of the tomb of Shams Tabrizi.
Many other programs including art exhibitions, live music performances and literary meetings are being held at the congress, it is reported.
Born in the city of Tabriz, Iran, Shams lived with Rumi in Konya (present-day Turkey) for several years, and has been immortalized in Rumi’s collection of poetry entitled, ‘Divan-e Shams’.
