End of an era as one of the greatest football players, Lionel Messi, has announced — what some speculate after his father's death, Jorge Messi, earlier this month — that he is retiring from the Argentina national team.

But does that mean he is also calling it an end to his career at Inter Miami"

For now, simply, no.

The legendary footballer will still play for the David Beckham-owned team because his contract at a total of $75 million per year will end in 2028.

Meanwhile, a few hours earlier, Messi broke the internet with his statement on retiring.

Taking to Instagram, he waxed on, "After the time that passed since the final, thinking about it a lot, I want to communicate to everyone that I am retiring from the national team."

He sombrely penned, "It was a decision that hurt and hurts in a soul, but I understand that this is the moment."

"I swear to you that I always gave everything, not just in the last few years when we won everything but before as well."

"And I always fought and left everything on the field for this shirt, to give you all joys and make you feel proud to be Argentines through soccer," he concluded.
