Trump defends AI data centers, dismisses opposition as ‘mistake’—Touts tech infrastructure boom

In a recent update U.S. President Donald Trump strongly defended the rapid buildout of artificial intelligence infrastructure, arguing during a media interview that local communities and states turning down data centers are making a significant mistake.

As reported, Trump emphasized that the booming AI sector "could be bigger than oil", asserting that communities that embrace the facilities stand to gain immense tax revenue, massive capital investments, and long-term employment opportunities.

Addressing growing bipartisan friction such as Texas Governor Greg Abbott's temporary pause on grid connections and reviews of resource strains—Trump maintained that smart regions should actively court these projects rather than push them away.

In his interview with former fixer Michael Cohen, which aired in full on Sunday evening, Trump claimed the U.S. was "leading China in AI by a lot."

The president said he was letting the AI companies "build their own power plants" and claimed these data centers were not taking "power from the grid," which he described as old and "tired."

Dismissing fears that massive server farms will destabilize local power grids, Trump claimed that major tech developers are increasingly positioned to supply their own independent power generation.
