Penguins sign Ville Koivunen to eight-year contract extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Ville Koivunen to an eight-year contract worth $4 million per season, securing him on a long-term deal.

Koivunen, 23, joined the Penguins as part of the trade that sent Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes.

He made 39 NHL appearances for Pittsburgh last season, registering seven points.

The Finnish forward also impressed in the American Hockey League with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he scored 13 goals and added 28 assists in 34 games. His 28 assists led the team.

Koivunen was named to the 2025 AHL All-Rookie Team after adapting quickly to North American hockey following three professional seasons in Finland's top league.

The eight-year extension gives the Penguins long-term cost certainty while showing confidence in Koivunen's development after his first full season in the organisation.

The deal is worth a total of $32 million and keeps Koivunen under contract with Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future as he looks to establish himself as a regular NHL contributor.
