Is Claude down? Anthropic says fix is on the way
Anthropic says it has identified the cause of elevated errors affecting Claude 5 models
Users of Anthropic's AI chatbot Claude experienced widespread disruptions on Wednesday after the platform began returning errors across multiple models.
Reports of the outage quickly spread on social media, while outage tracking website Downdetector recorded a sharp increase in user complaints, suggesting the issue was affecting users in multiple regions.
Anthropic confirms Claude outage
Anthropic acknowledged the issue through its official status page, confirming that it had identified the cause behind elevated error rates affecting several of its latest AI models.
"We have identified the cause of elevated errors on requests to Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5 and are working on a fix. We will provide an update as soon as possible," the company said.
In a later statement, it was reported that engineers were working on restoring service to its usual level but did not offer any estimate regarding the time required to fix the problem.
While the outage continued, there was a considerable increase in complaints posted by people who could not use Claude. It was reported that the chatbot was not able to give any answers and gave loading errors on submission of prompts.
While testing, the requests sent to Claude gave the following message: "This response didn't load."
According to Anthropic, the glitch hit a number of top Claude models, namely Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5.
The exact nature of the technical reason for high error rates has not been made known by the company, nor the connection between the glitch and infrastructure issues.
