Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has decided to step down as head coach of Newcastle United with immediate effect, according to BBC sport.

The 48-year-old came under pressure last season as Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League after dropping nearly 17 of their 38 games.

Eddie’s final match marked a 4-1 defeat by Bristol City in a reported pre-season on Wednesday. Sources reveal that the extent of Howe’s astonishment at the club's transfer business this summer demonstrated his realization of what was needed this time.

Howe decided to remain earlier this year despite the certainty of sales, but his entire perspective changed over the summer.

Howe has lost two key players this summer including Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony left by the departure of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

Howe replaced Steve Buce as manager in November 2021 and ended Newcastle's 70-year-wait for winning the prize of a national tournament of the 2025 Carabao Cup.

On the contrary, Newcastle reached the last-16 of the Champions League before losing 8-3 on aggregate to Barcelona.

While their EFL Cup defense ended in the semifinals, their league performance was disappointing following a fifth-place finish in 2024-25.
