Patrick Kane returns to Chicago Blackhawks on two-year deal

Patrick Kane is set to return to the Chicago Blackhawks following his departure from the Detroit Red Wings in free agency.

According to the recent announcement on Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks and Kane have agreed to a two-year deal worth $8 million annually ahead of the 2026-2027 campaign.

Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson said in a news release, “Day in and day out for 16 seasons, Patrick captivated the city of Chicago with his dazzling skill, creating some of the most memorable moments in Blackhawks history as he helped bring our storied franchise back to the pinnacle of our sport.”

“He's shown on countless occasions that he knows what it takes to win at the highest levels, and we couldn't be prouder for Patrick to once again call the United Center home and continue to shine in Chicago's brightest lights.”

The signing of the contract comes as the Blackhawks are set to start next season without Connor Bedard, top-line center. As per reports, Bedard is until early November following offseason shoulder surgery, and Chicago hopes Kane can temporarily fill the void before eventually sliding onto Bedard's wing later in the year.

Kane played for the Blackhawks for 16 seasons and won the Stanley Cup with the team three times, in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

He is also one of two active NHL players who made history by making 40 or more points in each of the last 19 seasons.

Kane has also earned the reputation of NHL All-Star Game nine times in his career especially when he was associated with the Blackhawks. Now, he is moving into his 20th NHL season ranked 6th among active players with 508 goals.
