Final Fantasy 14 mobile is shutting down for good: Here’s when
Final Fantasy 14 wind-down began Friday, when in-game purchases and new user registrations were suspended
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will never make it outside mainland China. Square Enix and development partner Tencent have confirmed the game is ending service on September 30, 2026, cancelling any hope of a worldwide launch.
The shutdown process began on Friday, with the cessation of in-game purchases and new user sign-ups. The servers and the website will be shut off on September 30, and customer service will be completely out of commission by October 15. The Chinese gamers, being the only region that ever played the game, have approximately 75 days left.
Reasons put forward by Square Enix for discontinuing the game were "business operations and changes in the market environment." The monetisation strategy for the free-to-play title had received flak ever since its launch in June 2025 in China.
The second discontinuation of a title from Square Enix in a short time is that of FF14 Mobile. Recently, Square Enix announced that the end-of-service date of Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis would be October 6.
This discontinuation comes very close to some major single player titles coming out from Square Enix: Final Fantasy Resonance, HD-2D comes out on October 22 and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation comes out in spring 2027.
