Since last week, the speculations related to the health of Senator Mitch McConnell have become the talk of the town.

The Republican of Kentucky has been absent from the Senate and public appearance for many months over the health issues. However, the prolonged absence of McConnell brought a wave of rumours.

Some far-right commentators asserted that McConnell was “left brain dead by his medical episode.” In mid-June, the Senator fell at home, became briefly unconscious and was hospitalized with minor injuries and mild pneumonia.

However, last week’s video of McConnell cleared some air regarding his intense health concerns. In the footage released by CNN, McConnell was seen being loaded into an ambulance after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest at his Capitol Hill home on June, 14.

The video was captured by his neighbours who asserted with 100 percent surety that the person seen on stretcher was the 84-year-old. In the midst of growing speculations, his office released a statement confirming no heart attack, stroke or haemorrhages along with a photo of him with his wife Elaine Chao.

In the picture, McConnell was seen somehow recovering holding a newspaper. In the statement, it was also mentioned that he plans to continue working remotely.

However, instead of giving relief to people, the photo leaves them perplexed. It prompted widespread online debate over its authenticity due to perceived anomalies.

Most of the users called the photo generated by AI as some demanded a concrete proof instead of an altered image.

One user wrote, “Funny that Mitch McConnell looked so much worse on April 30th than he did just yesterday after being in the hospital for a month. Seems he reverse aged there. Some of his hair even turned black again.”

Another commented, "It's crazy to me that so many news outlets are accepting the McConnell “proof of life” photo as proof of life, without questioning the very real issues with it.I need video evidence and a doctor’s report.”

“I guess McConnell's staff forgot it’s 2026 and you can’t get away with AI generated images anymore,” the third one hit back.

Some claimed that this was a tactical move as the statement comes after

Gov. Andy Beshear hinted he will personally appoint Mitch McConnell’s replacement if necessary, ignoring the newly GOP legislation blocking the governor from doing so.
