A video of South Africa footballer Jayden Adams went viral on Saturday as fans mourned his death on social media.

The video shows his teammates dancing while celebrating a victory against South Korea in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

However, Jayden Adams remained seated while watching his team celebrate their victory.

“Jayden Adams was going through something serious in his life, this was South African players celebrating after their win against South Korea while he was sitting quiet,” wrote a fan sharing the video on X.

Another wrote, “Jayden Adams learned about his grandmother's death during the World Cup. He was so depressed that in the victory video against South Korea, he can be seen sitting alone and silent while his team celebrated.”

The video was shared by multiple accounts on social networking websites shortly after the news of his death surfaced online.

The announcement regarding his death was made by South Africa’s sports ministry. No cause of death was given.

Jayden Adams, who featured in all three of his side's group stage games at the 2026 World Cup.

Police said they had opened an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was found at a house in Schotschekloof, a suburb in central Cape Town, on Saturday morning.

"Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation," Western Cape police spokesperson FC van Wyk told AFP.

Adams played in all three of South Africa's group-stage matches at the tournament but did not feature in the knockout defeat by Canada.

His death comes less than a month after the passing of his grandmother, on the eve of South Africa's Group A match against Czechia at Atlanta Stadium.

"Jayden started in the match against Czechia and gave his all while carrying the burden of losing his grandmother," the South African Football Association said at the time.
