Lewis Capaldi begs fans not to ditch his show for England World Cup match
Lewis Capaldi makes desperate pleas as he becomes emotional later in his performance
When England faced off against Norway in a do-or-die match last night, Lewis Capaldi, who is set to perform at BST Hyde Park, had one fear: fans might ditch his show for the game.
There, the musician joked, "Thank you for being here! Although I know a lot of you might leave when the England game comes on."
Adding his Scottish roots, Capaldi teased, "Let's not get into it. I'm Scottish; most of you guys are English. Can't we all live in peace and harmony? It's coming home."
Then he urged fans to stay until his performance.
"But it's f***ing special that you're here; I appreciate you being here when you could be anywhere else."
"Even if you do go to the pub early. I mean, stay, please, as many of you as possible until the end," he added.
Many fans heeded his plea.
Capaldi, meanwhile, became emotional during his performance.
He had the shock of his life when he was diagnosed with Tourette's in 2022.
Then, a year later, disaster struck when, at Glastonbury, he was unable to sing a song, forcing him to take a break from touring.
Then, he went into therapy.
As he fought back his tears, Capaldi admitted his worst fear after the diagnosis of the syndrome was that he'd never be able to perform again.
“To be here with you all and to be able to...' He then couldn't finish his sentence as he took some time to compose himself.”
"I didn't know if this would be possible again, so to be here, it's really special for me!" he shared.
Last year, Capaldi made a surprise return to the music scene with a surprise appearance on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage.
