Kate Middleton given standing ovation by celebrity wife of William's Eton friend at Wimbledon
Tennis star Maria Sharapova joined others to welcome Kate Middleton at the Royal Box
Kate Middleton on Saturday attended the Women’s Singles Finals at Wimbledon at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England.
The Princess of Wales, who wore a striking red dress, was seated next to tennis legend Martina Navratilova and her wife, Real Housewives of Miami star Julia Lemigova.
Behind the royal was fellow tennis star Maria Sharapova, and they were seen chatting during the match.
Maria Sharapova is engaged to Alexander Gilkes, a friend of Prince William. The couple got engaged in 2020 and share a son, Theodore.
Alexander Gilkes is known as New York’s best-connected Briton whose ex-wife, Misha Nonoo, is a friend of Meghan Markle.
Gilkes was also a guest at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.
He is understood to have become friends with Prince William when they were both at Eton and is also said to be close to Prince Harry, who also went to the same school.
Interestingly, Prince George, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 12-year old son, will follow in the footsteps of his father and attend the prestigious Eton College later this year.
Eton, one of Britain's most elite schools, is located close to King Charles's Windsor Castle, west of London.
