Real Madrid agree to Marc Cucurella transfer from Chelsea in £43m deal
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were both linked with Marc Cucurella but Real Madrid appear to have won the race for his signature
Real Madrid have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella in a transfer worth more than £43 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Spain international is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after four seasons, with reports suggesting he wanted a fresh start following Chelsea’s inconsistent performances in recent years.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were both linked with the defender, but Real Madrid appear to have won the race for his signature.
Madrid have been searching for solutions at left-back after concerns over the form and fitness of Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy.
The club also signed Alvaro Carreras from Benfica last season, but he reportedly failed to establish himself in the role.
Cucurella enjoyed a difficult start to life at Chelsea after joining from Brighton, but later became one of the club’s key defenders with his aggressive style and attacking energy down the flank.
The 27-year-old is now expected to join Jose Mourinho’s squad ahead of the new campaign as Real Madrid continue rebuilding their defence.
Chelsea, meanwhile, may not immediately enter the market for a replacement due to their existing squad depth.
New arrivals and versatile defenders already at the club are expected to provide cover on the left side.
Neither club has officially confirmed the transfer.
