Toronto Blue Jays lose Varsho to injury but activate Kirk ahead of Yankees series
Varsho was placed on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his left wrist, while catcher Alejandro Kirk was reinstated after recovering
The Toronto Blue Jays made several roster changes on Friday as injuries continued to disrupt their season ahead of a key series against the New York Yankees.
Outfielder Daulton Varsho was placed on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his left wrist, while catcher Alejandro Kirk was reinstated after recovering from thumb surgery.
The Blue Jays also recalled utility player Davis Schneider from Triple-A and designated backup catcher Tyler Heineman for assignment.
“Tough decision, tough conversation with Heiny, who I think everyone here knows really well,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said.
“Very well liked. I think it comes down to performance and how Vali was doing.”
Kirk fractured his left thumb after being hit by a pitch in April and recently completed rehab appearances in the minor leagues.
He returned to the starting lineup against the Yankees on Friday night.
The outfielder left a game against the Baltimore Orioles last week with wrist discomfort. Although initial MRI scans showed no major damage, he has not taken an at-bat since returning briefly to action.
