iPhone 18 Pro Max thickness stays at 8.75mm: Rumour
New leak claims iPhone 18 Pro Max thickness holds at 8.75mm, contradicting earlier reports
Two competing leaks are now telling different stories about the most anticipated Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max's dimensions and the latest one suggests Apple may have decided to stop the thickening trend that defined the last two Pro Max generations.
Famous hardware leaker Ice Universe has just posted a new leak suggesting depth number for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, 8.75mm, that matches the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple is listing it at the same measurement.
If this turns out to be correct, it would suggest the Pro Max line has basically paused growing thicker for the first time in two generations. Which would be a small reversal, because after the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max showed up, they both arrived heavier and deeper than what came before them.
The leaker didn’t really say anything about the device’s weight so the whole size debate is still split in half, one part answered, the other part kind of left hanging.
Notably, this new 8.75mm depth detail directly clashes with an earlier report from Instant Digital, which came out last November. They claimed the iPhone 18 Pro Max would be both thicker and heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
That older guess also pushed the weight above 240 grams, and that would’ve made it potentially the heaviest iPhone Apple has ever made. Still, Instant Digital didn’t include a specific depth measurement, so there was always that missing piece.
Two different leakers have opposite claims on this same topic. Neither one has given enough details for us to resolve the issue completely. Meanwhile Instant Digital thinks the iPhone will be really heavy, Ice Universe’s more recent leak challenges the thickness prediction only. The phone could stay relatively thin but be heavier due to denser parts inside.
Regardless of which thickness claim proves correct, earlier leaks point to battery capacity as the dominant design priority for this year's Pro Max. Reports from earlier in 2026 suggested the iPhone 18 Pro Max is set to receive a meaningful increase in battery size, while the standard iPhone 18 Pro is expected to see far more modest gains.
