Spurs stun Thunder in Game 7 to punch ticket to first NBA finals since 2014
The Spurs faced their biggest test on Saturday night as they looked to punch their ticket to the finals
San Antonio beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, securing their first spot in the NBA Finals since 2014.
“We had a lot of guys step up and make shots tonight, which we needed with a variety of people who had the double digit points, but it was a complete team effort,” Spurs Head Coach Mitch Johnson said after the game.
The victory was not built on a dynamic combination of emotion and resilience while proving all the skeptical TV netizens wrong. Their reward is a trip to the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks where the young Spurs chase a championship.
“Coming here, my first full year, being able to be in the Finals, I don’t know about if I thought that, but I knew that we’re going to have a damn good team, and we continued to get better throughout the course of the season,” Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox said.
Notably, the unbeatable lineup that had Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Gregg Popovich empowered a generation. Now this new Spurs team is heading to inspire the next one.
The journey has not yet come to closure following a remarkable night in Oklahoma City, this is the exact moment the Spurs arrived where they always believed they belonged.
