Why SpaceX wants to ‘protect the future of consciousness,’ Elon Musk explains
'For humanity to survive and thrive, the Moon and Mars can only be a first step,' Musk says
SpaceX is in headlines due to its imminent launch of Upgraded Version 3 of Starship on Thursday. But Elon Musk has explained the real goal of SpaceX.
According to the CEO of Tesla, human civilization is similar to “a fragile candle in vast darkness”. So, his vision revolves around saving and maximizing humanity's future.
Taking to X, Musk posted, “I want to enable anyone to go to the Moon or Mars so that we secure the future of consciousness.” Because, according to the tech billionaire, Earth is facing many issues like asteroid impacts that could jeopardise extinction of humans.
The idea of protecting “the light of consciousness” was also propagated by Musk in Davos' speech at the World Economic Forum.
“The overall goal of my company is to maximize the future of civilization, like basically maximize the probability that civilization has a great future and to expand consciousness beyond Earth.”
“SpaceX, for example, is about advancing rocket technology to the point where we can extend life and consciousness beyond Earth to the Moon to Mars, eventually to other star systems.”
“And I think we should always view consciousness, life as we know it, as precarious & delicate, because to the best of our knowledge we don’t know of life anywhere else,” SpaceX CEO added.
According to Musk, the cutting-edge technologies we are building should not only benefit humans in terms of efficiency. They must protect the civilization from being extinguished.
Users on the internet are divided on Musk’s vision related to the future of consciousness.
One user wrote, “For humanity to survive and thrive, the Moon and Mars can only be a first step. I hope that we have enough intrepid explorers who are willing to go off on their own to colonize new solar systems, spawning millions of distinct human cultures and genetic offshoots.”
Another wrote, “you secure the future of consciousness by building tech that liberates us, by spiritually awakening the planet, and by heralding world peace. Mars is a hedge against catastrophe, but not a replacement for the hard work required to create the new earth.”
But the skeptics also voiced their concerns, “Consciousness is forever and eternally safe and projecting. If this really was your goal you would stop lying about space and build consciousness ascension centers worldwide but of course you are not gonna do that.”
Another commented, “There is no future because he is helping to destroy humanity— Elon doesn't have consciousness at all.”
