Kenny Moore leaves Colts after nine seasons as Indianapolis reshapes defence ahead of NFL season
The Colts are expected to rely more heavily on younger defensive talent as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season
Indianapolis Colts have released veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II after both sides agreed earlier this year to explore a trade.
The move ends Moore’s nine-year spell with the franchise, where he became a key figure in the team’s defence and community.
The former Pro Bowl player saw his role reduced last season after injuries and roster changes limited his opportunities.
Moore missed three games with an Achilles issue and started only seven matches, his fewest since joining the Colts as an undrafted rookie from Valdosta State.
General manager Chris Ballard addressed the decision last month, saying: “[I] think very highly of Kenny, not only me personally, but organizationally, and I know the city feels the same way.”
“At the end of the day, talking to him, he just felt like it was time for a change.”
Indianapolis strengthened its secondary last season by trading for Sauce Gardner.
Across 132 games and 111 starts, Moore recorded 21 interceptions, four pick-sixes and 11.5 sacks. He earned his only Pro Bowl selection in 2021.
The Colts are expected to rely more heavily on younger defensive talent as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
