Ryan Reynolds in heartbreak as Wrexham Premier League dreams die
The team of Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham, has a miracle run, swooning fans, and surprising critics
Wrexham and its co-owner, Ryan Reynolds, dreamt of a spot in the Premier League. However, it all fell apart just near the finish line.
In a high-stakes match with Middlesbrough, the match ended up in a nail-biting fest, with both teams drawing at 2-2.
The result dashed the Red Dragons' hopes of reaching the elite league for a fourth time.
To add insult to injury, Hull filled up the final spot at the play-off by beating Norwich 2-1.
Yet, Reynolds – who bought Wrexham with Rob McElhenney in 2021 – is heartbroken yet defiant.
In a tweet on X, the Deadpool star penned, "I am completely gutted by today’s result but incredibly proud of our season. We’ve come a long way in five years, and this was the best result in our 150+ year history. More to do. But for now, we have so much to be proud of, Reds."
Echoing Reynolds' support, Phil Parkinson, Wrexham's manager, issued a statement, “This squad as it stands with a pre-season together will be even stronger next year."
“Of course we’ll always look to add to that to try and give ourselves an even better chance," he concluded.
