Jannik Sinner responds to dating rumours after Madrid Open win
Jannik Sinner defeated Elmer Moller 6-2, 6-3 at the Madrid Open
Jannik Sinner has responded to speculations related to a dating app that were actually the result of a humorous on-court misunderstanding during the 2026 Madrid Open.
Sinner defeated Elmer Moller 6-2, 6-3 at the Madrid Open on Sunday, April 26, advancing to the next round of the tournament.
The awkward yet amusing moment happened during a post-match interview as the world No 1 was asked about his efforts to learn Spanish. The confusion began when the interviewer misunderstood the name of the language-learning tool.
When asked about his fluency over Spanish and how he learns it, Sinner replied, “No, it’s not good. Not good yet, but my goal is to speak Spanish in one year, so I try to learn. I have an Argentinian physio also, you know, which helps for sure. I understand a little bit but I cannot speak yet.”
Talking about language-learning applications, the Italian tennis player said, “I still need to find out Duolingo or the other one is also Babbel, so let's see.”
Here the amusing moment comes. "Bumble is a dating app, " the journalist said to Sinner.
"No, it's not," Jannik replied. "Oh, Babbel," the interviewer later realized his misunderstanding.
The 24-year-old quipped, “"But anyways, it's not a dating app. I don't need a dating app.” while keeping the spirit of the funny moment alive.
Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has been dating Danish model Laila Hasanovic since mid-2025, as reported by PFSN and he recently received significant praise for how he handled a light-hearted question about his romantic life
