Caleb Downs joins Dallas Cowboys as first round pick as team strengthens defence in NFL Draft
Caleb Downs, from Ohio State, was taken with the 12th overall pick after Dallas traded up with the Miami Dolphins
The Dallas Cowboys have selected Caleb Downs as their first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, strengthening their defensive lineup.
Downs, from Ohio State, was taken with the 12th overall pick after Dallas traded up with the Miami Dolphins. The Cowboys gave up two fifth round picks in 2026 to secure the move.
According to reports, the team is focused on rebuilding its defence under coach Christian Parker, while still balancing needs on offence.
Downs is known for his ability to play multiple roles across the secondary, including nickel corner, free safety and linebacker.
Analysts say his awareness and quick decision making make him a key asset in both coverage and run defence.
His flexibility allows him to adapt to different play calls making him a strong addition to Dallas as they look to improve their defensive performance.
The Cowboys entered the draft with two first round picks and a total of eight selections, aiming to reshape their roster ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
