Goldman Sachs under police surveillance in Paris amid investigation
Surveillance comes on the heels of potential security threats faced by the US bank
Security forces are on high alert following a foiled plot against a Bank of America branch that resulted in four individuals, including three minors being placed under formal investigation.
The situation escalated on Thursday as Goldman Sachs placed its Paris offices under police surveillance. The move comes after the US authorities issued a warning regarding a pro-Iranian group allegedly planning to target American financial institutions in the city.
Soon after the potential threat, the American multinational investment bank allowed its Paris staff to work remotely.
The spokeswoman of the financial services company issued a statement, “The safety of our employees is our absolute priority, and we are taking the necessary measures to ensure their security.”
According to French security services, US interests in the country could be potential targets due to polarizing geopolitical circumstances.
French authorities have placed several individuals under surveillance following a failed terror attack on Bank of America’s Paris headquarters.
On Wednesday, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) opened a formal investigation into "criminal association with a terrorist enterprise" regarding the March 27–28 incident.
According to BFMTV, four suspects have since been indicted and remain in custody.
