Meghan Markle’s post-royal drama mirrors Sarah Ferguson turbulent exit: Insider
Meghan Markle draws comparisons to Sarah Ferguson over life after royal exit
Meghan Markle has found herself back in the royal spotlight as sources draw comparisons of her post-palace life to that of Sarah Ferguson’s.
According to reports, the former Duchess of York has struggled to redefine herself after stepping away from royal duties, just like the Duchess of Sussex.
A source told Radar Online that Meghan, who left official royal life with Prince Harry in 2020, continues to attract controversy over her public use of royal titles.
Some say the former Suits star still sees herself as part of the monarchy despite wanting to disassociate herself from the royal family.
"Sarah still expects to be called a duchess, even though the title was taken from her over her and Andrew's Epstein mess,” they said.
“And Meghan has total delusions of grandeur and refuses to acknowledge she is not a blue-blood royal,” the insider continued.
Last year, Markle sparked backlash when a gift hamper she sent to a friend included a note saying, ‘With the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.’
"Had Queen Elizabeth still been alive, she would have taken real offense at this, as she was extremely particular about matters such as the correct use of titles,” said a royal expert, per the publication.
The HRH style was not formally stripped from Markle and Harry, but they were explicitly instructed not to use it for business purposes.
"With the Queen gone, there is a sense they believe those boundaries no longer apply,” the expert added.
