King Charles argued he was 'not a total idiot' over Princess Diana situation

King Charles famously spoke about his relationship with ex-wife, Princess Diana, in a confessional.

His Majesty, who was still a Prince back in 1994 and had just divorced the mother of his two kids, admitted that he tried to stay faithful in his marriage.

King Charles later married Queen Camilla, his now wife, after years of extramarital association.

Speaking with journalist Jonathan Dimbleby for ITV, the 76-year/old was asked if he was ‘faithful and honourable’ during his marriage.

Charles said, “Yes, absolutely.” When asked again, “And you were?” Prince Charles again said yes, before admitting, “Until it became irretrievably broken down, us both having tried.” 

“I don’t think many other people have to go through this constant attention when their marriages break down,” adding that he is “not a total idiot” and didn’t want to divorce Diana.

This comes as author Royal author Penny Junor revealed: "The night before the wedding, which Diana spent at Clarence House with her sister Jane, he sent her a note, along with a signet ring that bore the Prince of Wales feathers.”

The King in his letter wrote, 'I'm so proud of you and when you come up I'll be there at the altar for you tomorrow. Just look 'em in the eye and knock 'em dead.’”
