Scarlett Johansson doubles down on support for controversial director
Scarlett Johansson also opens up about whether her support for him has an impact on her career
In the past, Dylan Farrow, Woody Allen's stepdaughter, accused him of sexual harassment, leading many in Hollyood to sever ties with him.
But not Scarlett Johansson.
“You never know what the domino effect is, exactly. But my mom always encouraged me to be myself, [to see] that it’s important to have integrity, and stand up for what you believe in,” she tells the Daily Telegraph after being asked whether her support for the filmmaker will have an impact on her career.
It is worth noting that the Marvel star has been among a few who have been constant supporters of Woody, with whom she worked on Match Point, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Scoop.
“I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime," she previously told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019.
However, after years of support, Scarlett now appears to see it in a different light.
“At the same time, I think it’s also important to know when it’s not your turn. I don’t mean that you should silence yourself. I mean sometimes it’s just not your time. And that’s something I’ve understood more as I’ve matured," the Black Widow star says.
Woody, however, strongly denied allegations against him. Citing a lack of evidence, New York authorities twice declined to press charges.
